Fast, stable and frugal
A player is judged by what happens when things go wrong. Here is what Kastideo does to start fast, last all evening and stay discreet.
Fast
- Channel start usually in under a second, with a “Ready in x s” badge that measures it.
- Adjustable buffer on Mac: Fast (default), Balanced or Stable, depending on whether you prefer immediacy or tolerance to interruptions.
- An Xtream account loads quickly: catalogues of tens of thousands of items open without waiting, and get.php addresses are automatically converted to an Xtream source, which is faster.
- Smooth navigation: moving from live to movies or series does not reload the catalogue.
Stable
- Stream health at all times: a green, orange or red pill, with details on hover.
- Start watchdog: if a channel does not start, Kastideo tries the other stream format (.ts or .m3u8), then shows an explicit error with the server's last answer, instead of spinning forever.
- Frozen picture: when the picture stays stuck for more than 6 seconds while the stream keeps arriving, Kastideo reopens the channel with software decoding and remembers it. You can also enable it per channel or for everything.
- Channel with no sound: Kastideo tries the other audio tracks and flags the problem with an icon.
- One connection at a time: the previous stream is closed cleanly before each new one, so you do not exceed your limit.
Understanding a problem
The playback log keeps the detail of every opening: address tried, server answer, attempts, Kastideo's decisions. Credentials are masked in it. It is sorted by topic, filterable, searchable and copyable in one click, which lets you report a problem precisely.
An active VPN often disturbs IPTV providers. Turn it off before digging further.
Frugal
- No account to create with Kastideo. The app works with your sources, and that is all.
- Your credentials stay on your device, in the system's secure store, and are sent only to the services you configure.
- No usage statistics are collected by the app.
- Discreet updates: the check happens at launch, never during viewing or recording, and installing is optional.
